After a leisurely breakfast we started the long drive back to Auckland where we had arranged to visit Simone, Tyrone and their little boy, Daniel who we will be housesitting for whilst they visit Simone’s parents in Australia over Christmas and New Year.  We also met Max and Jessie their two beautiful golden labradors, who will be our companions whilst we stay in Auckland.

Then it was back in the car and the scenic drive to the Coromandel area, which is where the New Zealanders go for their holidays.  To get to our destination this evening we drove along a winding coastal road for about an hour passing many native trees to NZ, one of which (pictured below) is covered in beautiful red bottle-brush type flowers.  We had two showers of rain whilst we were driving today, but both were soon over.

We have found accommodation in Coromandel town and look forward to exploring the beautiful mountainous forested peninsula tomorrow.
