Melburnians are sports mad, regardless of the sport being played!   The city hosts such international events as the Formula One Grand Prix in Albert Park, the Moto GP (motor cycle racing) on Phillip Island, the Australian Grand Slam Tennis Tournament at the Rod Laver Arena and, of course, the Melbourne Cricket Ground stages not only international cricket but also Aussie Rules Football.

This morning we took the bus to the famous MCG for a look around and then wandered over to the Rod Laver Arena where the Australian Open Tennis tournament was held only a few weeks ago.  They are both very impressive, modern stadia.

We returned to Jimmy Watson’s Wine Bar on Lygon Street for an excellent Barbeque lunch and then it was time to jump on the free City Circle Tram which took us past the Victorian Parliament buildings and over the Yarra river to the Arts Centre and the National Gallery of Victoria.   We spent a very pleasant afternoon looking at masterpieces by Monet, Turner, Rembrandt, Manet and, to my great delight….Rodin’s “The Thinker”.  It certainly does make us think that we´d like to live in Melbourne!!
