We were so very sorry to learn of the earthquake that struck at the heart of Christchurch, two days ago.  It is heartbreaking to look at the beautiful photographs we took during our visit….only a matter of days ago.  It is a very sobering thought to know that we were in the cathedral, where now so many tourists lie buried under the rubble.  There but for the Grace of God.

In our photo gallery above, you can see the choir singing during the afternoon we were there, as well as the organ and a stained glass window of the cathedral, in the photos.  I wonder if the Bridge of Remembrance is still standing?  In the second photo in the series, steel fences are still erected around buildings that were under repair following the first earthquake on September 4th 2010.

I have included a link showing some ‘before’ and ‘after’ photos of the city showing the devastation. Our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Christchurch during their truly enormous loss.   We are concerned about the safety of our friends, Andrew and Corrinne, whom we have been unable to contact to see if they are OK.
