We arrived in Melbourne during the late morning, and after settling in to our hotel overlooking Albert Park, we jumped into the car to drive around the F1 circuit within the park.  As you can see from the first photo, there is no chance of getting up much speed, as there is a set of traffic lights on the pit straight!  There is still plenty of activity going on around the track and, as most of the circuit is on public roads, (almost) full access to the park.

After we had toured around the circuit, we parked the car and made our way to the pit lane, where we were just in time to see one of the McLaren’s being driven away.  We were able to get much closer than we would do normally.

We were walking along the circuit next to the pit lane when, all of a sudden, a huge transporter lorry arrived carrying the fleet of Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Safety Cars.  Weren’t WE in the right place at the right time?  We watched as the precious cargo was lifted by fork-lift truck onto the track and eventually driven away.  We chatted for quite a while with the English guys (one of whom was from Manchester) who were unloading them, and managed to get some wonderful photographs!

Edward (our travelling bear ….remember him?) even managed to sit in the driver’s seat and pose on the bonnet!  Lucky Edward, huh? LOL
